Why VTR Health Navigation is different

Most navigation services give you a nurse or a call centre. We give you a physician.

🩺

Your navigator is a physician

Dr. Toyin Opelami is a board-certified internist with 16+ years of clinical experience. You get physician-level insight from the first conversation — not a case manager escalating to a doctor.

🔍

We read your records ourselves

We don't summarise what your doctor told you — we read the actual reports, imaging, and specialist letters and tell you what they mean and what questions you should be asking.

🤝

We coordinate, not just advise

VTR Health doesn't just tell you what to do next. We liaise with your providers, help you get referrals, support insurance appeals, and make sure your care team is communicating.

🌍

Cross-cultural expertise

Navigating the US healthcare system is especially hard for patients from other countries or cultural backgrounds. VTR Health was built with this experience in mind.

Navigation + clinical care in one

Already a VTR Health telemedicine patient? Navigation and clinical care from the same physician — seamlessly connected. New to VTR Health? You can access both services independently.

📱

Fully remote, fully flexible

All navigation services are delivered via secure video, phone, or messaging — wherever you are in Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, or Ohio. No waiting rooms, no travel.

Serving the Nigerian and African diaspora community

The US healthcare system was not designed with the immigrant experience in mind. If you grew up in Nigeria, Ghana, or anywhere in Africa — the billing systems, insurance structures, referral pathways, and even the way doctors communicate are foreign. VTR Health Navigation was built by a Nigerian-American board-certified physician who has lived both worlds. We speak your language — medically, culturally, and in every way that matters.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as seeing a doctor?
No. Navigation services do not create a physician-patient relationship, and VTR Health will not diagnose or treat you in the course of navigation. We help you understand your existing care, find the right providers, and make informed decisions. If you need clinical care, you can separately enrol as a VTR Health telemedicine patient.
Can I use navigation if I already have a doctor?
Absolutely — this is the most common scenario. Most navigation clients already have treating physicians or specialists. We work alongside your existing care team to help you understand what they're telling you and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
Will my insurance cover navigation services?
Navigation services are not currently covered by most insurance plans and are charged directly. Many clients use HSA or FSA accounts — check with your plan administrator. We do not bill insurance for navigation services.
What conditions do you navigate?
VTR Health specialises in chronic disease — hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and related conditions. We also navigate complex multi-specialist situations and cases where patients feel lost in the system. If you're unsure, book a single session and we'll tell you honestly.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, at any time. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You retain access to navigation services through the end of the period you've paid for.
What if I need clinical care, not just navigation?
VTR Health also offers telemedicine primary care in Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio. Navigation and clinical care are separate services — many clients start with navigation and transition to ongoing telemedicine care once they've found their footing.
